Chungcheongbuk-do and Chiang Mai, Thailand, held a video conference on July 5th ahead of the signing of friendly cooperation in September.

North Chungcheong Province Governor Kim Young-hwan and Chiang Mai Governor Nirat Phongsitaworn discussed mutual concerns and sought future cooperation through video conference.

The video conference was organized with the intention of the two governors to face each other before signing friendly cooperation between Chungcheongbuk-do and Chiang Mai in September to improve their understanding of each other and to consider practical cooperation projects that help both regions.

Chiang Mai Province is Thailand's northern major city, the second largest city after Bangkok, and is a tourist holy place that is highly sought after by Koreans as "living for a month."

Chungcheongbuk-do and Chiang Mai have a lot in common, including the geographical characteristics of inland areas, population size, and rich cultural heritage, so it is expected to promote practical cooperation projects that can be won-win in various fields such as agriculture, industry, tourism, and culture.

At the meeting, Chungcheongbuk-do and Chiang Mai also promised mutual developmental cooperation to share and learn about each other's strengths, such as cultural policies of Chungcheongbuk-do and tourism policies of Chiang Mai, in order to expand soft power cooperation, with the Thai government focusing on Korea as a role model and forming a national soft power strategy committee, paying attention to the global craze for K-content.
