Johannes Fruehauf, President of LabCentral and BioLabs, global bio startup incubators, visited Osong.
This visit was proposed by North Chungcheong Province to explore potential cooperation between the Osong Bio Cluster and BioLabs, and to hear directly from Dr. Fruehauf about ways to develop K-Bio Square into an innovative cluster surpassing Kendall Square.
Dr. Fruehauf is recognized as a key figure who contributed to the growth of Kendall Square in Boston, USA, into a world-class bio cluster. In 2010, he founded the private incubator BioLabs, and in 2013, with support from the Massachusetts state government, he established the nonprofit organization LabCentral.
Kendall Square is described as “the most innovative square mile on Earth” and is home to global corporate research centers such as Moderna, which developed the COVID-19 vaccine, as well as Google, Amazon, and Biogen, alongside the campuses of MIT and Harvard University. It serves as the role model for Osong K-Bio Square.
He stated that the key factor behind Kendall Square’s success was the creation of a bio-innovation ecosystem by building a platform that connects startups, researchers, investors, and global pharmaceutical companies.
