MOTIE (Minister Ahn Deok-geun) and KOTRA (President Yoo Jung-yeol) held a ceremony to celebrate the launch of the "Paris K-Tech Camp" in Paris, France, on May 23. Choi Jae-chul, the ambassador of the Republic of Korea to France, major French accelerators, and companies using the K-Tech camp celebrated the opening of the camp.
MOTIE and KOTRA have been operating K-tech camps for each promising global market since December last year, starting with Silicon Valley in the U.S., so that Korean export tech companies can easily advance into overseas markets. The K-tech camp provides support to export tech companies with △ overseas start-up spaces △ overseas expansion consulting △ partner discovery △ recruitment of local human resources. It plans to open the camp in Singapore (October) and Helsinki (November) in Finland following Paris this year, and will expand to Tokyo and Dubai next year. It aims to operate more than 30 K-tech camps in major regions of the world where the start-up ecosystem has developed by 2030.
The K-Tech camp is mainly composed of export tech companies participating in the overseas startup support project organized by KOTRA. Each camp will operate open office spaces that can be used by 15 companies from two companies at all times. However, when corporate demand is concentrated due to large-scale exhibitions or events, the camp will operate flexibly by utilizing additional external shared offices. During the exhibition, 40 Korean companies also rented a private shared office near the exhibition hall to support domestic companies' consultation with overseas partners, technology demonstrations, and market research activities.
Lancord, an interactive AI solution company, used the K-Tech camp in Paris for two weeks to participate in the VivaTech exhibition. "It was convenient to prepare for an exhibition in one place and have a business meeting for a technology demonstration without having to travel here and there," Lancord said. "In particular, consulting with KOTRA on local business practices and know-how in advance helped me greatly," he added. "I also want to use the camp when I revisit Paris to proceed with follow-up procedures."
