Chungcheongnam-do Deputy Governor for Political Affairs Jeon Hyung-sik achieved $10 million in exports of "Chungnam Laver" in the Thai market in Southeast Asia.

According to the province on the 4th, Gatbawi Co., Ltd. and Daecheon Kim Co., Ltd. signed an export agreement of $5 million each at Asia's largest food fair "2024 Thailand International Food Expo" held in Bangkok, Thailand from the 28th to the 1st of last month.

South Chungcheong Province Laver, known as the semiconductor of the sea, received great response from local buyers at the fair, and the results are expected to increase further if the export performance of fisheries and food companies in the province is collected.

During this period, the former deputy governor promoted the export development of companies in the province, including △ exhibition and promotion of marine products, △ sharing local buyer information, △ export consultation, and supporting fishery food companies to participate in the fair.

In addition, he visited a local distribution processing company that imported Laver from companies in the province to make and sell laver processed foods, toured the factory, and checked the distribution and consumption of Thai seafood.

Thailand is the fourth-largest exporter of fisheries products in South Chungcheong Province (27.4%) and is rapidly emerging as an emerging Laver exporter.

Thailand, which enjoys Laver as a snack, mainly imports dried laver from Korea and sells it worldwide after processing.

Taking note of this, the province is seeking ways to increase added value, such as supporting product development by fisheries companies in the province and participating in the fair.

"Thailand is becoming more important as a gateway to expand its entry into the ASEAN (ASEAN) market," Jeon said. "We look forward to the day when 'Chungnam Laver' can occupy the world beyond Korea through this export fair."
