
In celebration of the Lunar New Year holiday, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism (Minister Yoo In-Chon) announced that 22 Korean Cultural Centers in 20 countries will host various events for locals to experience Korean Lunar New Year traditions such as paying respects (sebae), eating rice cake soup (tteokguk), wearing hanbok, and participating in traditional games.
In Asia, the following events will take place:
Korean Cultural Center in Japan will host activities such as sebae (New Year's bow), writing New Year wishes in Hangul, and a traditional games festival.
Korean Cultural Center in Osaka will offer experiences like making tteokmandu-guk (rice cake soup with dumplings) and sharing Korean Lunar New Year stories through picture books.
Korean Cultural Center in Shanghai will hold an e-sports competition and offer traditional Korean games and food tasting events in celebration of the holiday.
Korean Cultural Center in Vietnam will organize a traditional Korean games experience, including activities like top-spinning, air balloon, and kick-the-top games for students of the Sejong Institute.
Korean Cultural Center in Thailand will hold a special sebae event where local students show gratitude to Korean War veterans for their contribution to strengthening ties between the two countries.
In Indonesia, there will be traditional cultural performances such as samulnori (Korean percussion music) and fan dances. Participants born in the Year of the Snake will also have the chance to try on hanbok (traditional Korean clothing) while taking part in making lucky bags and Cheongsa-chorong lanterns. The Philippines and India will also host events like traditional game experiences and rice cake soup tastings.
