The MCST will open the "Content Specialist Training Center" in Jakarta, Indonesia, on Sept. 6 in collaboration with KOCCA (Acting Director Yoo Hyun-suk). MCST has established the center as part of its first official development assistance (ODA) project in the cultural content sector, "Indonesian content industry professional training project." It is the first time that the country has expanded its official development assistance field from cultural support to content.
As a strategic base for the Korean Wave, Indonesia ranked first among the 26 countries surveyed, with 86.3% of the respondents liking Korean cultural contents in 2024 (as of 2023). The Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between Korea and Indonesia, which took effect in January last year, newly included "cultural contents" as a field of economic cooperation between the two countries. In response, MCST plans to share its experience in fostering the content industry with Indonesia through this official development aid project, enhance the international status of Korean cultural contents, and systematically support the development of the local content industry based on manpower training.
MCST will cooperate with Indonesia's Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology to establish training centers equipped with the latest digital content equipment in six regions of Indonesia by 2027. Reflecting the characteristics of each region and the demand for manpower in the content industry, each center will conduct education programs on "Animation," "documentary," "Mobile Content," and "Digital Content for Culture and Arts Education." The main target of education is local young people aged 16 to 30, who are the main consumers of cultural contents.
