KISA and KCC in Nigeria announced that the Korean cuisine competition held on August 31 was a success, attracting 330 people.
This year's competition was held under the theme of "Korean Cuisine Contest using Korean Jang" in hopes of promoting the UNESCO listing of Korean Jang (Sauce) culture. In the competition, 10 out of 65 participants advanced to the final round through fierce preliminary rounds and competed fiercely with various dishes such as ssambap, japchae, cucumber salad, and eggplant greens using Jang.
According to the results of the screening, the first place went to the participant, Paeations Vincent Berefele, who introduced ssambap, braised tofu, seasoned cucumbers and vegetables. The second place went to Victor McAdonai Ogga, who introduced japchae, bean curd salad, and egg rolls, and the third place went to Yahaya Umar Bindir, who made chicken gangjeong and seasoned cucumbers.
"I've been practicing hard for the competition by learning Korean food in a cooking class hosted by the cultural center," said Vincent Berefele, who won first place. "I'm very interested in traditional Korean food, and I'm very happy and grateful to win like this."
"Through this event, we were able to confirm the popularity of local Korean food in Nigeria once again," said KISA Secretary-General Jeon Hae-woong. "We are working to promote Korea's long culture UNESCO listing, and we will continue to create various programs to promote excellence."
