Boryeong-si, Chungcheongnam-do (Mayor Kim Dong-il) attended the Wan Lai Bang San Festival held in Bang San, Thailand from April 15 to 20, and gained explosive popularity among Thais, the home of the water festival.

This successful popularity is analyzed as a result of operating a promotional booth in Boryeong City for two days from the 16th during the festival and focusing on promoting the Boryeong Mud Festival.

Before the event, Mayor Kim met with Somchai Chompunay, director of the Eastern District of the Thailand Tourism Organization, and Nalongchai Kunplum Sen Suk, mayor of Bangsan, to strengthen mutual friendship and receive a plaque of appreciation from Bangsan at the opening ceremony.

With this visit, Boryeong City once again strengthened its friendship with the Thai Tourism Organization, sought a developmental direction for linking with the Boryeong Mud Festival, and decided to jointly develop various tourism contents and establish a cooperative system to attract tourists.

"As the Boryeong Mud Festival is well-known in Thailand, it continues to have a reputation as a global festival," Mayor Kim said. "We will try to develop various programs and create synergies in connection with international events such as the Songkran Festival and the Wanlai Bangsan Festival."

Meanwhile, the Wanlai Bangsan Festival is held at Bangsan Beach in eastern Thailand in April every year, and following the Songkran Festival (April 13-15), various related events are held to suit the characteristics of the region.
