MCST (Minister Yu In-chon) will promote the "K-Comics World Tour" in a total of six countries in Southeast Asia and Europe, including Vietnam, Indonesia, Belgium, Italy, and Singapore, starting with the exhibition in the Philippines on June 21.
Southeast Asia is a region where the current cartoon and webtoon market is not yet large compared to other regions, but the demand for Korean comics and webtoons is expected to increase in the future due to the traditional high interest in the Korean Wave. Meanwhile, Europe is a market that is expected to expand the consumption of webtoons by the existing Japanese "Manga" consumers. Therefore, through this exhibition, it plans to expand the interest and consumption of webtoons in the two regions and lay the foundation for Korean webtoons service companies to enter overseas markets such as Japan's "Kakao Piccoma" and the U.S. "Webtoon Entertainment."
The event will be held jointly with the Korean Cultural Center overseas in the country. In the Philippines, which marks the beginning of the tour with the Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines (Director Kim Myung-jin), the exhibition will be held centering on the representative works of the genre, "What's Wrong with Secretary Kim" and "Red End of Clothes Sleeve", considering that local people prefer romantic comedy and drama genres.
In particular, "What's Wrong with Secretary Kim" was re-produced (remade) as a drama in March this year in the Philippines and became a box office sensation, topping the online video service platform "Viu" for three consecutive weeks. It will continue to draw keen attention by recreating the vice-president's office and the secretariat, which are spaces in webtoons, in real life in the exhibition hall. Artist Cho Hye-seung, who was in charge of writing "Clothes Sleeve Red End", will visit the event site in person to hold a story concert and a cartoon drawing training session (workshop) for locals. The exhibition will be held on the first floor of The M in Manila until August 10.
