The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minister Park Jin) and the Overseas Koreans' Office (Director Lee Ki-chul) jointly held a youth exchange meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on December 18 to commemorate the expansion and reorganization of the Korea-Canadian youth exchange program with the Canadian Embassy in Korea.
The meeting was organized to introduce the Korea-Canada Youth Exchange Program, which was expanded and reorganized in May to commemorate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Canada, and to hear experiences and suggestions from working holiday experiences and prospective participants in order to communicate with people's livelihoods.
In a welcoming speech read by Hong Seok-in, the head of the consular government, Minister Park Jin said, "As Korea-Canada relations were upgraded to a comprehensive strategic partnership in September last year, we will actively support more young people to grow into global talents by referring to the vivid voices of the field heard through the meeting."
Lee Ki-chul, head of the Overseas Koreans Agency, congratulated prospective participants who planned their experiences in Canada, one of the most affluent countries in the world, as a young man, and urged them to prepare thoroughly even before sending them. In addition, he said that he hoped the participants would be confident with positive thoughts, a sense of ownership, and pride in their country and themselves.
Canadian Ambassador to Korea Tamara Mohini said that Canada and Korea have long been favored by young people from both countries, and the Youth Exchange MOU, signed on the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, also reflects the long-standing friendship between the two countries and hopes that young people from both countries will have a valuable experience of becoming global citizens through youth exchange programs.
