The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister Yoo In-chon, hereinafter referred to as the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) will hold the 2024 Korea Grand Sale 2024 as the first event of the 2024 Year of Visit to Korea from Jan. 11 to Feb. 29. Minister Yoo In-chon visited the opening ceremony held at the On Dream Society (Jung-gu, Seoul) on Jan. 11 to encourage officials and welcome foreign tourists.
"Korea Grand Sale" is a representative shopping culture and tourism festival in Korea that has been held since 2011 based on the participation of various private companies such as aviation, lodging, shopping, food, experience, and convenience services to attract foreign tourists and promote tourism consumption during the off-season of tourism in Korea (January to February).
At the opening event, more than 80 people, including officials from major participating companies and foreign reporters, screened the theme video containing the message "We will give a special moment to foreign tourists visiting Korea," and "One Million" performed "K-Dance" with choreographer Lia Kim participating.
Before and after the opening event, Minister Yoo In-chon met with officials from major participating companies and listened to their vivid opinions. Before the opening event, he held a meeting with officials from Jeju Air, Lotte Department Store, Able CN, Ottogi, Shinsegae Department Store and GS Retail to hear their opinions on the preparation process for the K-tourism content experience event favored by foreigners and the response of foreign tourists. After the opening event, he visited Olive Young Myeongdong Town and Tonimori Myeongdong Cathedral, which were reopened in November last year and are visited by an average of 3,000 people (90% of foreign tourists) per day, to check the shopping status of foreign tourists and immediately refund the VAT, and to welcome foreign tourists.
