On the 10th, the World Federation of Overseas Korean Traders Associations (World-OKTA), led by President Park Jong-beom, and the Korea Intellectual Property Protection Agency (KOIPA), led by Director Kim Yong-seon, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the Korea Intellectual Property Center.
This agreement was made to effectively respond to the increasing number of intellectual property (IP) disputes in the global market and to support smooth overseas business operations for Korean entrepreneurs. The MOU outlines several key areas for cooperation, including:
Establishing a mutual collaboration system to protect the IP of companies entering or planning to enter foreign markets
Organizing educational programs, seminars, and promotional activities by both institutions
Exchanging up-to-date information on IP systems for local businesses entering foreign markets and cooperating closely on these matters.
President Park Jong-beom emphasized the importance of IP, stating, "In international trade, IP disputes are a critical factor that determines a company's competitiveness." He continued, "The number of trademark and patent disputes faced by Korean entrepreneurs in the global market has been increasing. Through this agreement, we will actively support World-OKTA members in protecting their IP and gaining a favorable position in trade disputes."
Director Kim Yong-seon of KOIPA said, "With World-OKTA, the largest overseas Korean economic organization with 30,000 members across 151 chapters in 70 countries, and our IP centers in 8 countries, we expect significant synergy in protecting intellectual property rights for businesses expanding abroad."
