The Consulate General of São Paulo (Consul General Chae Jin-won) has announced a collaboration with Hana Bank Brazil (CEO Lee Gil-yong) to introduce the 'PIX' payment system, aimed at improving consular services that were previously only available for cash payments. The system is set to be piloted at the Consulate General of São Paulo starting on April 1, 2025.
PIX is an electronic payment system operated by the Central Bank of Brazil and is the most widely used payment method in the country, with more than 70% of Brazilians using it. Its usage surpasses that of cash and debit cards, and is expected to significantly alleviate the inconveniences many have experienced with cash payments for consular services.
Consul General Chae Jin-won expressed, "I am fully aware of the challenges our fellow nationals have faced in preparing cash for consular fee payments. With the introduction of PIX, we anticipate a significant improvement in consular services, ultimately enhancing convenience for the community."
He also added, "I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Hana Bank Brazil and its staff for their support in making this initiative a reality."
The Consulate General will continue to improve consular services and expand digital administrative services, with the introduction of PIX being the first step in this ongoing effort.
