
On April 25 at 11 a.m., Kim Han-il, President of the San Francisco & Bay Area Korean Association and co-chair of the World Korean Community Leaders Convention, welcomed Ko Tak-hee, President of the Federation of Korean Associations in China, for a meaningful meeting at the San Francisco Korean Community Center.
President Ko leads the Federation of Korean Associations in China, a large overseas Korean organization comprising 6 federations and 62 local Korean associations, representing approximately 800,000 ethnic Koreans in China.
This visit was part of early coordination efforts for the 80th Anniversary of Korea's Liberation Day celebration, which is scheduled to be held on August 16, 2025, at the Rotunda Hall of San Francisco City Hall. The event aims to strengthen solidarity and cooperation between Korean communities in the United States and China.
President Kim introduced the statues of independence activists installed at the community center, highlighting the patriotic contributions of figures such as Ahn Chang-ho, Pastor Lee Dae-wi, Dr. Jang In-hwan, and Dr. Jeon Myeong-un, who were active in the region. He emphasized the importance of passing down their noble spirit of patriotism to future generations.
Board Chair Kim Soon-ran introduced ongoing community contributions, including support for Korean language education at Lowell High School, resumption of cultural lectures, and operation of a senior citizens' singing class—efforts to preserve and promote the Korean language and culture in the region.
