A ceremony commemorating the 45th anniversary of the May 18 Democratic Movement in Gwangju in May 1980 was held at 5 p.m. on May 16 at the Korean Center in San Francisco (745 Buchanan St, San Francisco, CA).

The event was organized by the Honam Hyangwoo Association (Chairman Lee Seok-chan) in Northern California, and was co-hosted by the Consulate General of San Francisco and other Korean organizations in the Americas.

The ceremony was held in a solemn and serious atmosphere under the auspices of host Lee Min-gyu, and began with a silent tribute to the May 18 democratic spirits, as well as the singing of the Korean and American national anthems, the patriotic martyrs, and the salute to the patriotic spirits.

Kim Yong-ok, the 14th chairman of the Honam Hyangwoo Association, then reported the progress of the May 18 pro-democracy movement, and through the screening of related documentaries, it resonated deeply in the hearts of participants again.
