
The San Francisco & Bay Area Korean Association (President Kim Han-il), in collaboration with the San Francisco Consulate General and Northern California Korean organizations, co-hosted the 106th Anniversary Ceremony of the March 1st Independence Movement on March 1. The event took place at the San Francisco Korean Community Center, with approximately 150 attendees gathered to honor the spirit of the movement.
The ceremony commenced with Director Lee Min-kyu serving as the event’s moderator. A notable highlight was the reading of the Korean Declaration of Independence by 14 individuals of all ages from the Northern California Korean community. San Francisco Consul General Lim Jeong-taek delivered the President’s commemorative address, followed by remarks from Kim Han-il, President of SF & Bay Area Korean Association; Choi Jeom-gyun, President of the SF Peaceful Unification Advisory Council (delivered by Senior Vice President Lee Jin-hee); Kevin Park, Santa Clara City Council Member; Choi Kyung-soo, President of the SC Korean American Senior Welfare Society; Lee Seok-chan, President of the Northern California Honam Association; Choi Yeon-bun, President of the SF Korean American Lions Club; and student representatives Choi Jung-hyo and Lee Ji-soo.
President Kim Han-il emphasized the historical significance of San Francisco in Korea’s independence movement, stating, "The March 1st Movement's spirit holds special importance here, in what was once a stronghold for Korea's fight for independence during Japanese colonial rule."
