MCST (Minister Yoo In-chon) decided to hold the "2024 Korea-China Copyright Government Meeting and Forum" in Beijing, China, on July 16 to strengthen cooperation between the two countries' copyright policies and the music industry development in the artificial intelligence (AI) environment.
Since signing the Memorandum of Understanding on Copyright Exchange and Cooperation in 2006, Korea MCST and China's National Copyright Bureau have continued to hold copyright exchange events between Korea and China for more than 15 years every year. In particular, this year, the two countries decided to further solidify their public-private copyright cooperation network to create a healthy copyright ecosystem based on the "pursuit of mutual respect and common interests" emphasized at the Korea-China summit in May.
First of all, the 16th Intergovernmental Conference on Copyright [Chinese Chief Representative: Wang 志 Cheng, Director of Copyright Administration] held on the morning of July 16 covered four agendas: trends in copyright legislation, response to copyright infringement, intensive copyright management, and other cooperation tasks. In the first area of copyright legislation, the two governments focused on the latest efforts to respond to various copyright issues triggered by generative artificial intelligence. In particular, the Chinese side said that the Korean government's preemptive response and efforts to artificial intelligence and copyright issues are very impressive, and that it will take more time to announce official policy proposals at the Chinese government level. The two countries will continue to work closely together to respond to technological advances such as generative artificial intelligence and continue to cooperate in leading artificial intelligence copyright norms in the international community.
