The 10th World Korean Politicians Forum, with 100 current and former Korean politicians and next-generation promising politicians from 14 countries, opened in Fairmont Ambassador Seoul on the 20th under the theme of "Designing the Future Beyond the World's Korean, Inflection Point."
Marking its 10th anniversary, the forum began with the opening speech of Yeonamatin, president of the World Council of Korean Politicians (Canadian Senator), and included a dinner hosted by National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik, a special lecture by Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yeol, a congratulatory speech by Lee Sang-deok, head of the Overseas Koreans Agency, and a welcome speech by Kim Young-geun, head of the Overseas Koreans Cooperation Center.
In particular, LA Mayor Karen Bath, who dispatched two Korean representatives from Los Angeles, the U.S., where the world's largest Korean community is located, Andy Kim, who is running for the U.S. Senate, and Federal Representative Michelle Park Steel, the queen of elections, also delivered congratulatory messages through video.
The Overseas Koreans Cooperation Center delivered appreciation plaques to the late Senator Shin Ho-beom, who contributed to the establishment of the World Council of Korean Politicians and the hosting of the World Korean Politicians Forum, and former presidents Lim Yong-geun (invitation, second generation), Cindy Liu (3rd generation), and Yuna Martin (4th generation, incumbent).
In particular, the special interest and participation of the next generation of Korean politicians in each country is noteworthy, with more than 50 percent of participants under the age of 45, unlike previous years, including Representative Daniel Bae of Oklahoma (third term, born in 1995), Representative Kim Ernest of the Uzbek Liberal Democratic Party (born in 1995) and Representative Yannick Shetty of the Federal New Austrian Party (youngest member of the Federal House of Representatives, born in 1995). In addition, aides from each country, including executives of the LA Korean Advisers Association, which was officially launched this year, will participate.
