From August 20 to 24, more than 1,000 scientists, entrepreneurs, Korean government officials, and science and technology students gathered at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in San Francisco to hold the "Korea-U.S. Science and Technology Conference 2024 (UKC 2024).
Dr. So Kang-pyo, a scientist and entrepreneur, was the only one who caught the attention of the reporter and asked for an interview, and he readily responded.
Dr. So had his left arm amputated and was busy with his prosthetic arm, sharing information with people, and gave a presentation with all his heart on his research and development papers.
Researchers who listened to the lecture responded with a big round of applause and response to the sweaty presentation of the thesis and new products.
Dr. So Kang-pyo was born in Namwon and has been living as a disabled person for the rest of his life after his left arm was amputated by a small head who used to use forage given to cows he had raised at home at the age of 2.
He spent his adolescence due to poor family circumstances, and his local friends went to the army one by one, and Dr. So, who was left alone in the neighborhood, started studying because he was really bored.
Dr. So, who passed Gunsan University's chemistry department, once again emphasized his friends' gratitude, recalling the fact that he was able to study by sending tuition instead of his friends because he had no tuition fees.
Dr. So, who felt that social disconnection was inevitable due to disability, did not give up and applied for a national scholarship student and was able to receive funding for U.S. training.
In 2013, when he was 30 years old, he entered MIT as a researcher.
In order to achieve his dream, he developed a new metal nanocomposite material while researching at a prestigious university in the United States and established a company called "ATOME" in New Jersey in 2023, his 10th year in the U.S.
